Shrewsbury Town have today confirmed that centre half Connor Goldson has now completed a move to Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion.

Having been at the club since he was 14, the 22 year old moves for an undisclosed fee and has now signed a four year deal at the Amex Stadium.

He leaves Shrewsbury having made a total of 120 appearances, with a return of eight goals and in his time at the club he has tasted promotion with us twice.

Last season he was named in the PFA Team of the Year for League Two and he leaves having been voted our Players’ Player and Player of the Year for 2014-15.

Speaking to the Official Site as the move was announced, CEO Matt Williams explained.

‘I think the deal we`ve got is in the best interests of Shrewsbury Town and it helps the player to establish himself further up the ladder before we get there. From the Club`s point of view you always want the best possible deal for the club and I believe we have got that. We were not aware of Brighton`s interest before the start of the week, and it was Connor declared himself unfit for selection on Monday evening. We would have liked him to have been available for the Chesterfield game but these things happen in football.’

Williams went on to say that it’s a huge credit to the club to have seen his rise so far through the Academy ranks and now into the Championship and ultimately he leaves with our thanks and as a role model for other youngsters at the club when it comes to not only having the right skill, but also the right work ethic.
