Former striker Simon Haworth has joined our backroom staff on a voluntary basis.

The very experienced player began his career at home town Cardiff City back in 1995, and then went on to have spells with Coventry City, Wigan Athletic and Tranmere Rovers, notching up nearly 250 career appearances, along with scoring 90 goals before injury forced him to hang up his boots early.

Speaking to the Official Site manager Micky Mellon explained.

‘He just wants to be involved with myself and the football club, and he’s going to be doing some work with the strikers. I believe (striker) is a specialist position and it’s an area that I believe if we do a bit extra work and work a bit harder to get that quality, we can score a few more goals. Hopefully it will pay dividends.’

As Haworth adds to his coaching experiencing, he has fulfilled a similar role in recent times with both Everton’s Roberto Martinez, and Wigan’s Uwe Rosler.
