Ahead of the closure of the loan deadline today, manager Mike Jackson managed to extend the loan spell of Sam Foley.

The deal from Yeovil Town will now run until the end of the season and he was obviously delighted as he’s been impressed with how Foley has slotted into the team and performed for us so far.

At the point of speaking to the Official Site and announcing the extension and the fact he will now be available for our next seven games, the gaffer didn’t rule out further loan deals, but admitted they would be hugely unlikely and the latter certainly came to pass.

‘It’s not massively likely. I think we’ve got to be careful. We’ve got seven loans already and we’ve got to be careful that we don’t just collect them and people are sat in the stands and they’re in your changing room and they’re not playing when they come here to play.’

Jackson says at this stage in some cases it can be futile bringing somebody new in unless they really are somebody special, because they have to acclimatise to the club, their new colleagues and then adjust to the style of play asked of them and with only a month left that is a tall ask – especially for younger players.

Therefore for him, what was more important was extending the deal of Foley who has already adjusted and then trying to build on the team spirit that already exists with the players we have.
