League two round-up – Shrewsbury 0-0 AFC Wimbledon

League two round-up: 29th October 2011

The latest weekend of the football league season has been and gone, the npower league two is rounded-up in this article.

Aldershot 3-1 Crewe
Aldershot beat Crewe at home.

Hylton (23) gave Aldershot the lead midway through the first half but on the half hour Leitch-Smith (30) equalised for Crewe. McGlashan (48) and another from Hylton (62) completed a 3-1 win.

Barnet 3-6 Burton
Burton let a two goal lead slip but still managed to come away from Barnet with all three points.

A match with plenty of goals, most in the second half, saw Burton go into the break 2-1 up. A double from Kee (7 & 31) put Burton in control but Barnet pulled one back before the break when McLeod (39) scored.

The hosts levelled shortly after the break through Holmes (55) but Kee (62) completed his hat-trick just after the hour to restore the visitors lead with Yussuff (74) and Dyer (84) then extending this further.

Deering (88) pulled another back to make it 3-5 but Zola’s (90+4) injury-time goal completed a 6-3 win for The Brewers.

Bristol Rovers 2-0 Dagenham
Two second half goals from Bristol Rovers saw them to a home win over Dagenham.

Just into the second half Anyinsah (50) put Bristol Rovers ahead with a penalty at the death from Harrold (90) completing a 2-0 win.

Cheltenham 2-1 Plymouth
With a little over 5-minutes to play Plymouth were heading for victory at Cheltenham, two goals and a sending off swung the game in the hosts’ favour though.

An Elliott (26) own goal looked to have won Plymouth the game but with time running out Duffy (83) equalised for Cheltenham from the spot. Plymouth then had Griffiths (85) sent off with Duffy (90+3) giving the hosts a 2-1 win with a late injury-time winner.

Crawley 1-1 Accrington
Crawley had to settle for a point, although they were behind against Accrington.

Just before half time Murphy (41) gave Accrington the lead with Akpan (78) earning Crawley a late 1-1 draw.

Macclesfield 0-2 Southend
Southend beat Macclesfield away 2-0.

Goals in either half from Hall (39) and Ferdinand (62) gave Southend the points and kept their promotion bid on track.

Morecambe 2-1 Gillingham
An injury time goal was not enough for Gillingham as they lost 2-1 at Morecambe.

Goals from Hunter (8) and Ellison (68) put Morecambe in control although a penalty deep into injury-time Nouble (90+5) was a consolation.

Northampton 1-1 Rotherham
The points were shared at Northampton between the hosts and visitors Rotherham.

Minutes into the game Evans (2) gave Rotherham the lead but an own goal from Logan (24) ensured Northampton a 1-1 draw.

Oxford 2-1 Port Vale
Home advantage enabled Oxford to beat Port Vale 2-1.

Duberry (11) gave Oxford the lead but Port Vale levelled just after the hour through Richards (62). The visitors were not level for long though as Leven (64) put the hosts ahead with what proved to be the winner.

Shrewsbury 0-0 AFC Wimbledon
The run of defeats for AFC Wimbledon was ended although this was ended with a draw at Shrewsbury.

Neither side could manage a breakthrough so the points were shared in a 0-0 draw, which would have suited Wimbledon more given the run of results they have had and this being away from home.

Swindon 0-0 Bradford
Bradford ended with 10-men but they still managed to hold Swindon to a draw.

Playing the final 33-minutes with 10-men after Davies’ (57) sending off Swindon would have fancied their chances of victory but had to be content with a point in a 0-0 draw.

Torquay 2-0 Hereford
A three match winning run for Hereford was ended at Torquay on Saturday.

Going into the game Hereford would have fancied their chances but Torquay themselves were coming off the back of an impressive 4-0 win over AFC Wimbledon, so would have fancied themselves equally, if not slightly more as this was at Plainmoor.

Two goals in the final 5-minutes of the first half from Nicholson (40) and Bodin (44) gave the hosts a 2-0 win.
