Shrewsbury Town and manager Micky Mellon have received the League Managers Association’s LG Performance of the Week award following the victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Taking the FA Cup fourth round victory over the Championship side, three two on the day, the five man panel comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, all agreed that our performance was worthy of note.

Mellon will now received a specially commissioned trophy to commemorate the award, and BBC Sport have the gaffer as saying post game.

‘To have this club involved in games like this and challenging with Sheffield Wednesday to get into the fifth round of the cup is where we should be. We were every bit as good in that second half as we have been poor in other games. We worked very hard on our game plan on the training pitch and all the players stuck to it. People are asking for attacking football. I cannot do any more than my right-back getting on the end of a cross in the 97th minute!’

Nice recognition for one of the upsets of the round!
