Having now added his tenth signing of the summer since taking on the role of manager at Shrewsbury, Mellon has admitted he is still looking at new additions this summer, but he refused to put a number on how many other people he might be talking to, instead making the obvious comment that he does have to stick to his budget.

Speaking to the Official Site following the captures of Scott Vernon and James Caton, he explained.

‘At the end of the day we have a budget and if we can squeeze all the players that I can into the budget that I believe are important to what we want to do then we’ll do that. There’s no real numbers but of course we need a squad that hopefully covers all eventualities that you have through the season with suspensions, injuries and loss of form. You need to have a squad to cope with all that so we’re well on the way and we’re pleased with where we are.’

Mellon does admit he feels there is still some work to do, and that does include further players to meet and talk to, but they will proceed with the same ‘due diligence’ that our signings so far have been approached with, it’s not only about money or their individual talent, it’s how they fit into the plan, the new Shrewsbury profile, and how they will integrate into the group in terms of their team ethic, character and personality.

‘We won’t rush that, we’ll take our time, and I’m confident I’ll put together a team for the Shrewsbury Town fans and public that will represent them properly.’
