Captain Tamika Mkandawire faces a race to be fit in time for the game against Crawley after limping off injured in the game against Oldham.

It was a bad night all round last Tuesday as we crashed out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy by a three goal margin, as we also lost Mkandawire after only six minutes of the game, and it’s expected that he won’t be fit in time for the Crawley encounter on September 14 although Graham Turner has talked of his hope that even if he doesn’t make that match, he won’t be out for much longer following it.

Speaking to the Official Site the manager explained.

‘He could be struggling for a couple of weeks. It’s not a hamstring, it’s the sheath of the hamstring which has been damaged. It’s unfortunate but these things happen.’

It’s been a strange start to the season for Turner with injuries and things and Shrewsbury haven’t had a very settled team, especially in defence, and Turner added that he’d not known a start to the season like it before in his career.

However he did also confirm that he was considering bringing in a defender on loan when the emergency transfer window opens next week, but that’s not guaranteed yet as he still wants to assess things – but it’s an option he has if he wants to.

It’s probably going to depend on how Dave Winfield progresses as he’ll hopefully get a run out in the reserves early next week as he continues to recover from injury.
