Shrewsbury’s Carling Cup season ended in the 1st Round as Paul Simpson’s former side Carlisle got one over him with a 1-0 win on Tuesday.

League One Carlisle were made to work very hard for the win as their League Two opponents pushed them all the way, with Shrews midfielder Grant Holt hitting the post from 30-yards and captain Ben Davies going close. It was Carlisle that scored though through Peter Murphy (41), his free-kick from the edge of the area proving the match winner.

The hosts kept going and only a save from Ben Williams again denied Davies, who also struck the bar towards the end.
