Graham Turner has backed skipper Matt Richards over the missed penalty, despite calls from the crowd for Tom Eaves to take it in the game against Crawley.
However, speaking to the Official Site after the game, Turner pointed out that Matt was our recogised spot kick taker and therefore the honour is his.
‘Matt has been a very good penalty taker for us and I had no problems with Matt getting hold of the ball. He’s skipper, and he’s used his authority to take the penalty which he’s got every right to do on his record. The disappointment then obviously is he’s put himself under pressure and put one over the bar, but I wouldn’t fall out with him for taking control of the situation.’
Turner says it’s more likely the dressing room would air their concerns if he let somebody else take the kick and they then missed, as opposed to him missing.
