League two round-up: 25th October 2011

The football league season continued with a round of midweek games, the npower league two is rounded-up in this article.

Barnet 0-3 Southend
Southend inflicted another defeat on Barnet as they continue to struggle.

Goal from Hall (17) and Bilel (36) had Southend in control by the half time break. Barnet’s chances of fighting back were all but extinguished when Dennehy (72) was sent off for a second bookable offence with Harris (85) then completing a 3-0 win for the visitors.

Bristol Rovers 0-3 Port Vale
Port Vale comfortably beat Bristol Rovers 3-0.

First half Port Vale goals from Richards (19) and Loft (37) were added to with the third late on for the visitors from Rigg (85).

Cheltenham 0-1 Crewe
Cheltenham slipped to a home defeat against Crewe.

Davis’ (54) second half penalty secured Crewe the 1-0 win.

Crawley 3-1 Dagenham
Crawley made Dagenham pay for losing a man early in the first half with a 3-1 home win.

Lee (9) had given Dagenham the lead but when Doe (17) was sent off for the visitors Crawley’s attacking ability was always going to trouble them.

Tubbs’ (18) penalty levelled it up with a first half injury-time strike from Torres (45+4) giving the hosts the lead with victory secured late on when Pittman (85) scored.

Macclesfield 1-0 Bradford
Just the one goal was enough to separate Macclesfield and Bradford, with the hosts benefiting.

A penalty midway through the second half from Chalmers (66) gave Macclesfield a 1-0 win.

Morecambe 3-3 Rotherham
Morecambe let a 3-0 lead slip as Rotherham fought back to earn a 3-3 draw.

McDonald (3) and a double from Wilson (28 & 37), both penalties, had Morecambe in complete control but a penalty from Grabban (39) before the break gave Rotherham hope.

The visitors’ hopes rose further when Evans (58) pulled another back with Revell (64) completing a great fightback just after the hour.

Northampton 1-3 Hereford
Hereford made it three wins on the spin as they inflicted another defeat on struggling Northampton at Sixfields.

Elder (13) and Leslie (20) had Hereford 2-0 up by the break but a goal from Berahino (63) just after the hour gave Northampton hope.

Pell (71) rounded off a 3-1 win with a goal less than 10-minutes later to move The Bulls four points clear of the relegation zone.

Oxford 5-1 Plymouth
Four goals in the final 23-minutes of the second half secured Oxford a 5-1 home win over struggling Plymouth.

Hall (15) gave Oxford the lead but a penalty from Walton (55) brought Plymouth level. Hall (67) scored again midway through the second half with a double from Constable (71 & 90+3) sandwiching a goal from Leven (77).

Shrewsbury 1-0 Accrington
Home advantage was just that for Shrewsbury as they beat Accrington.

A goal just before the half hour make from Bradshaw (28) secured Shrewsbury a 1-0 win.


Swindon 2-0 Gillingham
Swindon beat Gillingham 2-0 at home.

Two goals in the final 10-minutes from Ritchie (80) and Smith (90+1) saw Swindon collect the points.

Torquay 4-0 AFC Wimbledon
Torquay recovered from back-to-back heavy defeats to inflict another heavy loss on AFC Wimbledon at Plainmoor.

Stevens (32) and O’Kane (43) had Torquay in control at the break with AFC facing a third successive defeat.

This 4-0 defeat, which followed Wimbledon’s 5-2 defeat against Crawley at the weekend, was confirmed with a second half double from Howe (45 & 56).
