Calvin Zola has rejected a loan move to Town from Crewe and will stay at the club in order to fight for his spot in the starting XI.

Zola held talks with Shrewsbury on Friday and was not in the Crewe squad to face Torquay on Saturday but remains at Gresty Road – for now.

Alex boss Dario Gradi said: ‘Calvin hasn’t gone out on loan.

‘He is still here but he has said he is looking to go on loan if there is a permanent move at the end of it.

‘I think he wants an increase in wages as well and Shrewsbury weren’t prepared to do that.

‘That’s not the reason he was left out against Torquay though. I don’t punish people like that.’

Well, suit yourself then Mr. Calvin Zola. The Crewe forward rejected a loan move to Town this week after talks with the club broke down over his increasing wage demands.

It would have been interesting to see the rangy striker plying his trade for Salop, but some things are not meant to be.
The 25-year-old also rejected offers from Burton, Bradford and Southend.

He was Crewe`s leading scorer last term with eighteen goals but he has struggled to break into Dario Gradi`s side this term after only scoring once in six matches this season.

The former Tranmere Rovers player will most likely leave Gresty Road in the summer when his contract expires.
